Commencement Postponement FAQ

How will I get information regarding the reschedule of Commencement?

All updates will be communicated via email. Please be sure to regularly check your Syracuse University email for details, instructions, schedules and more. Additionally, all important messaging and updates will be posted on news.syr.edu.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Syracuse University is re-addressing the timing of a commencement celebration for the Class of 2020. In June 2020, a survey will be sent to all students to receive feedback on whether a late-Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 ceremony is preferred.

Do I still have to file for my diploma request even though Commencement is postponed?

Yes. All students are still required to file a Diploma Request on MySlice in order to participate in the postponed Class of 2020 Commencement events.

How do I register for the postponed 2020 Commencement & Convocations activities in the Fall?

Due to the postponement of 2020 Commencement, the online registration for the Commencement & Convocations activities in May has been removed and the information that had been submitted will not be used for the ceremonies in Fall 2020.

Once further details about the Commencement & Convocation activities for the Class of 2020 are announced, a new registration form will be made available for eligible graduates to complete for participation in the 2020 Commencement & Convocations ceremonies.

How do I get my Cap and Gown?

To order Master’s and Doctoral regalia, please visit the Syracuse University Bookstore.

Clarification:

  • To refund or return your cap and gown, including additional items you may have purchased such as a stole, visit College Regalia Returns.
  • Be prepared to provide your order confirmation number. If prompted, no payment was collected at the Bookstore. Your order was placed directly with Herff Jones through the Bookstore website.
  • Syracuse University Doctoral regalia is rented.

I switched my regalia order from ” in store pick-up” to “ship-to-home” and have not received it yet. How do I check on it’s shipping status?

Herff Jones communicated via email to all graduation candidates on April 10 and April 24 to adjust their order details if they would like to receive their cap and gowns at home. It takes approximately three weeks to process and ship the adjusted cap and gown orders. An April 27 deadline was determined by the processing and shipping time needed in order to receive the regalia by May 10. Any cap and gown orders that were placed online or adjusted after April 27 may not be delivered before the May 10 Conferral event.
